스트라빈스키 불새는 그의 최초의 발레음악이자 출세작으로 이 작품은 1970년러시아 발레단에 의해 빠리에서 공연되어 크게 성공한 불세작이다 <불새>는 러시아 옛 전설에 나오는 소재인데 이를 발레음악으로 작곡했다 ; 짧고 이국적인 서곡이 연주되는데 마왕 카제이의 마법의 정원이 보인다 어느날밤 사냥을 나온 이반 왕자가 이 정원에 들어갔는데 왕자는 그곳에서 황금빛 찬란한 불새를 사로잡는다. 불새가 살려달라는 애원에 살려주었더니 그 답례로 깨끗한 황금빛 날개털을 뽑아 왕자에게 준다 그때 정원엔 마법으로 자유를 빼앗긴 13명의 처녀가 나타나는데 그중 가장 아름다운 처녀는 공주, 12명의 시녀드이다 왕자는 그 공주에 반한다. 이곳은 마법을 쓰는 카체이의 정원인데 사람들을 보는대로 돌로 만들어 버리니 빨리 이곳을 나가야한다는 재촉을 받는데  이 때 괴물들을 거느린 카체이가 나타나 왕자에게 마법을 사용해 돌로 만들려고 한다

스트라빈스키는 이 발레음악에서 몇곡을 발췌해서 모음곡으로 엮었는데 <<마법에 걸린 정원>>, <<불새의 등장과 춤>>

Cristian Măcelaru is a Romanian conductor. He was born on March 15, 1980 in Timișoara, Romania1. He is the youngest child in a family of ten children. He studied violin in his youth and continued his music studies in the United States at the Interlochen Arts Academy. He graduated from the University of Miami in 2003 with a B.M. degree. He was concertmaster of the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the youngest concertmaster in the orchestra’s history1. Măcelaru further continued his music studies at Rice University, where he developed his interest in conducting. His mentors included Larry Rachleff1. Additionally, while at Rice, he conducted the Houston Youth Orchestra and was a violinist with the Houston Symphony Orchestra for two seasons1. He also took master classes in conducting with such mentors as David Zinman, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Oliver Knussen and Stefan Asbury, at the Tanglewood Music Festival and at the Aspen Music Festival1. From the Solti Foundation, he received its Emerging Conductor Award in 2012, and the Solti Conducting Award in 20141. In 2011, Măcelaru became assistant conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra. He was promoted to associate conductor of the orchestra in 2012, and held this post until 2014. He then served as conductor-in-residence with the orchestra from 2014 to 20171. Măcelaru has been music director of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music since 20171. In February 2017, Măcelaru first guest-conducted the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne. He has since returned for three subsequent guest appearances with the orchestra. In May 2018, the orchestra announced the appointment of Măcelaru as its next chief conductor, effective with the 2019-2020 season, with an initial contract of 3 years12. This appointment marks his first full-time orchestral post1. In June 2020, the orchestra announced an extension of his contract through July 202512. In September 2018, he first guest-conducted the Orchestre National de France (ONF), and returned for a second guest-conducting appearance in the summer of 2019. On the basis of these appearances, in November 2019, ONF announced that Măcelaru would be its next music director, effective September 1st, 2021123. Following Emmanuel Krivine’s resignation as ONF music director in May 2020, Măcelaru became music director of ONF on September 1st, 20203 . In September 2022, ONF announced an extension to Măcelaru’s contract through 2027.
